Announcer Uhm Ji-in Unveils Family for the First Time, Revealing Husband's Japanese Academic Career and Children's Multilingual Education
KBS announcer Uhm Ji-in has captivated viewers by revealing her husband and two children on television for the first time.
In the episode of KBS's entertainment show 'The Boss in the Mirror' (KBS 2TV) aired on the 21st, Uhm Ji-in introduced her family, who had just arrived in Korea from Japan after a year and a half, saying, "It's the day my children and husband are coming to Korea after a year and a half (from Japan)."
Given past rumors surrounding Uhm Ji-in, including a marriage conspiracy and accusations of using a child actor as a double, the panelists jokingly expressed suspicion about her handsome husband's casting. Uhm Ji-in's husband is currently a professor in Japan. He explained, "Since my wife is working, I am raising our two children." Uhm Ji-in added, "My major was business administration, but I can teach classes in Korean, English, and Japanese. I am fluent in all three languages," drawing attention.
Her husband, who came to Korea for the first time in two years, accompanied Uhm Ji-in to Daechi-dong. "We came to a consulting firm to understand what our children are good at and to get career and aptitude counseling," Uhm Ji-in stated as they met with Director Lee Byung-hoon. Regarding their children's educational concerns, her husband shared, "They attended an English kindergarten in Korea, then an international school in Japan, and now attend a regular school in Japan. Due to language differences, it's difficult for them to keep up with the general curriculum, leading to significant private education expenses. They attend cram schools and take online classes; it seems there are difficulties due to the changing environment."
The husband, who primarily raises the children in Japan, revealed that their monthly education expenses amount to approximately 2 million won (Korean currency), which garnered significant attention. After the initial consultation, the family underwent intelligence tests and parenting attitude assessments. Their son showed high scores in science and engineering, while their daughter, Bon-a, who is fluent in Korean, Japanese, and English, achieved a Level 2 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, equivalent to a university student's level, impressing everyone. Director Lee Byung-hoon advised, "In Japan, realistically, pursuing a degree in pharmacy would be recommended."
Uhm Ji-in graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Yonsei University and joined KBS as an announcer in 2017. She is proficient in Korean, English, and Japanese, leveraging her exceptional language skills across news programs and various entertainment and cultural shows. Recently, she has expanded her career into narration for documentaries.
