Broadcaster and environmental activist Julian Quintart has drawn criticism for targeting a small business cafe on social media. On the 22nd, Julian posted a photo of a beverage cup from a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul, questioning its excessive packaging.

He specifically pointed out the 'triple cup,' stating, "Is there now a triple cup, not just a double cup? Why do they do this?" Julian, who has been advocating for reduced single-use cup consumption, implied the cafe's packaging was an unnecessary environmental burden.

However, the cafe owner, identified as 'A,' responded through an online community, clarifying the situation. A explained that the insulation was necessary due to the use of small ice pellets made from natural ingredients, which melt quickly, thus requiring a cup that maintains temperature to prevent flavor degradation. A also mentioned previous attempts to reduce takeout container use, like using beverage pouches, which also led to issues.

Adding to the controversy, it was revealed that the photo Julian used was potentially an unauthorized image, further fueling public backlash. Julian subsequently deleted the post and issued an apology.

"It turned into an attack on a specific brand," Julian admitted. He explained, "My intention to raise an issue with the double-cup trend went in a different direction." He further elaborated that seeing a 'triple cup' (double cup with an additional holder) shocked him into posting without fully considering the context. He acknowledged his method was wrong and pledged to handle sensitive issues more wisely in the future. Julian also stated he has proposed ways to compensate the cafe owner for any harm caused.

Julian Quintart first gained recognition in South Korea through the JTBC talk show 'Non-Summit' in 2014. As a Belgian native, he became known for his candid discussions about life in Korea. He has since been active in various entertainment programs and is now a prominent environmental advocate.
