Jung Dong-won, fondly known as the 'Nation's Grandson,' has once again found himself embroiled in controversy, this time for driving a vehicle without a license at the age of 16.

The news broke that Jung had been operating a truck in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do, in 2023 without possessing a driver's license. He has since been transferred to the prosecution for investigation into violations of the Road Traffic Act. His agency acknowledged the incident, stating that it was a brief driving practice session near his home and expressed deep regret and remorse.

Adding another layer to the situation, Jung's representatives claim that video footage of the driving incident was later used by an acquaintance to extort a large sum of money from him. Although Jung reportedly paid the demanded amount, he subsequently reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest and ongoing trial of the alleged perpetrators.

However, public sentiment remains largely critical, especially given a previous incident in March 2023 where Jung rode a motorcycle on a highway designated for cars. This latest infraction, following a promise of stricter management and education from his agency after the prior offense, has intensified disappointment among fans and the general public.

The fandom has issued a firm statement, denouncing the actions as unjustifiable and emphasizing the importance of adhering to basic societal rules, regardless of one's passion for music. Jung Dong-won is now in the complex position of being both a victim of extortion and a perpetrator of illegal activity, leaving the public questioning where sympathy should lie.

Born in 2007, Jung Dong-won rose to fame through the TV Chosun audition program 'Mister Trot.' His youthful charm and mature singing ability earned him the affectionate nickname 'Nation's Grandson.' He has also ventured into acting, showcasing his diverse talents.
