Choi Eun-kyung Expresses Disappointment Over Not Being an Anchor During KBS Announcer Days
Broadcaster Choi Eun-kyung appeared on TV Chosun's 'The Taste of Discovery with Huh Young-man' (hereinafter referred to as 'The Taste of Discovery') and shared her regrets from her days as a KBS announcer.
Visiting Changwon Special City, Choi Eun-kyung reminisced about her hometown. She revealed that she didn't have a clear dream until after graduating from university. Although she majored in English Education at Ewha Womans University, she felt that teaching wasn't the right profession for her.
She mentioned that she never dreamed of becoming an announcer when she was young, viewing them on television as 'special, doll-like people.' She candidly shared that she stumbled into the profession and was surprised that even someone introverted like herself could do broadcasting.
Choi Eun-kyung also shared behind-the-scenes stories from her announcer exams. After several attempts, she passed the KBS exam and was active in various roles, including reporting, radio DJing, and hosting a World Cup program. However, she expressed her disappointment at never having been given the opportunity to be a news anchor during her time at KBS.
"I wanted to be an anchor because I thought news anchors were cool," she stated, expressing her feelings of being overlooked for the role even when a position needed filling.
Meanwhile, Choi Eun-kyung also spoke candidly about her recent departure from MBN's 'Don't Ask the Taste' after 13 years. She said, "I believe my entire 40s were spent on that show. I worked incredibly hard, so I have no regrets." She added that she is currently focusing on her YouTube channel.
Choi Eun-kyung debuted as a KBS announcer in 1998. She gained recognition for hosting numerous programs such as 'Morning Yard' and 'Special Mission! Into the Viewer's Heart.' After becoming a freelancer in 2002, she continued her broadcasting career with shows like 'Moment Capture! Unbelievable Stories,' 'Escape Crisis Number 1,' and 'Don't Ask the Taste.'
