Sung Si-kyung Apologizes for Operating Agency Without Proper Registration for 14 Years

Singer Sung Si-kyung has issued a sincere apology after it was revealed that his one-person agency had been operating for 14 years without the necessary business registration.

In a lengthy post on his social media on the 18th, Sung Si-kyung stated, "I am truly sorry for causing concern to many people due to matters related to me."

He explained that he established his one-person agency in 2011 with the intention of "reducing scale and costs and doing things to the best of my ability." He admitted fault, saying, "Along with the enforcement of the Promotion of the Performing Arts and Arts Industries Act in 2014, the registration system for performing arts business operators was introduced, but I failed to recognize and comply with it in a timely manner."

Sung Si-kyung acknowledged that he only recently learned that this system is an important legal mechanism for protecting the rights and interests of performing artists and ensuring the sound operation of the industry. He expressed deep regret for not recognizing the new system's requirements, including mandatory training, and promised to promptly complete the necessary registration procedures and rectify the errors.

He clarified that the failure to register was unrelated to any intent to underreport income or evade taxes, assuring that his income has been transparently reported through a tax accountant. Sung Si-kyung concluded by stating that this incident has served as an opportunity for stricter self-reflection, and he pledges to act more meticulously and responsibly moving forward.
