'I Am Solo' Contestant Sentenced to Suspended Prison Term for Sexual Assault
A contestant from the popular dating reality show 'I Am Solo' has been handed a suspended prison sentence for charges of aggravated sexual assault.
The Seoul Western District Court announced the verdict on October 19th, sentencing Mr. Park (35) to one year and six months in prison, suspended for three years.
In addition to the suspended sentence, the court mandated 40 hours of sexual violence treatment education and prohibited him from seeking employment at institutions related to children, adolescents, and the disabled for five years.
Mr. Park was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her twenties in a parking lot in Seogyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, around 3:30 AM on June 21st. The presiding judge noted that the assault occurred despite the victim's intoxication and clear signs of resistance, causing significant psychological distress and physical injury.
However, the court cited Mr. Park's acknowledgement of the crime, his remorseful attitude, and the fact that the victim had reached a settlement and did not wish to pursue punishment as mitigating factors. The judge also considered the three months he spent in custody as a period of reflection.
Mr. Park had previously appeared on the ENA and SBS Plus variety program 'I Am Solo' and its follow-up series, 'I Am Solo: Love Continues'.
Prior to this legal issue, Mr. Park was known for his participation in 'I Am Solo,' where he shared aspects of his life with viewers. During his time on the show, he cultivated positive relationships with other contestants, presenting a candid image. This conviction is expected to severely impact his public profile and any future broadcasting endeavors.
