SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama ‘The Scorpion: Killer’s Outing’ has seen a significant rise in viewership ratings following the start of the collaborative investigation between serial killer mother Jeong Yi-shin (played by Go Hyun-jung) and detective son Cha Soo-yeol (played by Jang Dong-yoon).

The second episode, aired on September 6th, depicted the intense mother-son relationship as they navigated a complex web of trust and suspicion while hunting down a copycat killer. Cha Soo-yeol’s investigation led him to the prime suspect, Seo Gu-wan (played by Lee Tae-goo), who had a history of exchanging letters with Jeong Yi-shin while in prison. A search of Seo Gu-wan’s residence uncovered crucial evidence, including a 3D-printed firearm and extensive personal information.

Seo Gu-wan’s descent into madness was showcased when he terrorized Kim Tae-seok’s family, though they were thankfully rescued thanks to the swift actions of the police, leading to Seo Gu-wan’s arrest. However, Kim Tae-seok’s whereabouts remained unknown. Seo Gu-wan, after provoking Cha Soo-yeol at the police station, was brought before Jeong Yi-shin. She expertly manipulated him, extracting a vital clue suggesting Kim Tae-seok might still be alive. The situation escalated dramatically when Seo Gu-wan attacked Jeong Yi-shin and mentioned Cha Soo-yeol's wife, before ultimately turning the gun on himself.

The episode concluded with Cha Soo-yeol locating Kim Tae-seok based on the final clue, while Jeong Yi-shin was seen eerily feeding leaves to insects. This chilling ending left viewers stunned.

‘The Scorpion: Killer’s Outing’ achieved a personal best rating of 7.3% (Nielsen Korea, Seoul metropolitan area), marking a substantial increase from the previous episode. The highest single-minute rating surpassed 10%, and the key demographic for viewers aged 20-49 also saw a significant jump to 3.29%. This success is attributed to the powerful performances of Go Hyun-jung and Jang Dong-yoon, coupled with the drama's gripping and unpredictable plot.

The high-density crime thriller airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM.

Go Hyun-jung debuted as the second runner-up in the Miss Korea pageant in 1989.

She gained widespread acclaim for her roles in hit dramas such as 'Sandglass,' 'Spring Day,' and 'Dear My Friends.'

More recently, she has captivated audiences with her performances in 'Reflection of You' and 'Ballerina,' maintaining an active career.
