Day6 Reveals Shockingly Small First Earnings on 'You Quiz on the Block'
South Korean band Day6 has revealed the humble beginnings of their financial journey, disclosing their surprisingly small first earnings on the popular tvN show 'You Quiz on the Block'.
The band, celebrating their 10th anniversary, appeared as a full group on the broadcast. During the show, member Sungjin shared that their initial settlement amounted to only 3,600 won (approximately $2.60 USD). "We debuted but had nothing, so we decided to put in our best effort for the long run and actively sought out opportunities," he recalled.
Sungjin also described his proactive approach to gaining exposure, attending every broadcast station staff dinner he heard about. "If I heard they were having a company dinner, I would just show up. I wanted to do anything to get noticed," he explained, highlighting the sheer determination to establish their presence in the industry.
He further detailed their frugal lifestyle, stating, "At the time, a cup of Yukgaejang ramen cost 600 won. I figured I could buy six a month with our earnings. I’d get extra pocket money to buy ramen for the members, as we had no money," he reminisced. "Whenever I met a writer, I'd ask them to listen to our music, and if we went on a program, I'd do everything I could, even if it was just as a guest. We lived in a frenzy."
Young K echoed these sentiments, recalling his initial expectations: "I thought debuting with JYP would be brilliant, glamorous, and lead to commercial endorsements. But after debuting, only one or two articles came out. I carried JYP shopping bags around, telling myself, 'I debuted with JYP,'" he shared, looking back at the challenging early days.
Day6 is a 5-member band formed by JYP Entertainment, debuting in 2015. The group consists of Sungjin, Young K, Jae, Wonpil, and Dowoon, known for their strong live performances and self-produced music. Celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2024, they continue to engage their dedicated fanbase with consistent musical activities.
