Jung Dong-won's Agency Denies Blackmail Over 'Unauthorized Driving Video,' Reveals Extortion Attempt
Singer Jung Dong-won's agency, Showplay Entertainment, has addressed allegations and blackmail attempts surrounding an unauthorized driving video.
The agency issued a formal apology on the 11th, explaining that an acquaintance, identified as 'A,' illegally accessed Jung's private photos after taking his phone last year. Subsequently, 'A' and associates allegedly threatened Jung with a video of him practicing driving without a license, demanding over 200 million KRW (approximately $150,000 USD) as hush money.
The video, recorded by a passenger during a brief 10-minute driving practice session near Jung's hometown, was presented as evidence of unlicensed driving. Jung, however, refused to pay and promptly reported the blackmailers to the police. The individuals involved have since been arrested and are currently on trial.
Showplay Entertainment stated that Jung deeply regrets his actions and is reflecting on them. The agency pledged to provide thorough management and education to ensure Jung matures into a responsible member of society and to prevent similar incidents in the future, also extending a sincere apology to fans and the public.
