Kim Go-eun Admits to Gaining Weight for 'Twinkling Watermelon' Role
Actress Kim Go-eun revealed that she gained weight to portray the 21-year-old character Eun-jung in the Netflix series 'Twinkling Watermelon' (working title).
At the production presentation held on the morning of the 5th at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, Kim Go-eun described her character Eun-jung as someone who "fundamentally admires and looks up to Sang-yeon." She elaborated, "Because Sang-yeon is different from me, special, outstanding, and shines as a person, Eun-jung's feelings are more about admiration and envy, rather than jealousy."
She further confessed, "I had to play Eun-jung at 21, an age that evokes a youthful image. I thought about what I was like when I was younger, and my cheeks were fuller, so I gained weight." Co-star Park Ji-hyun praised Kim Go-eun's appearance, saying, "She was so lovely."
'Twinkling Watermelon' is a Netflix series that delves into the intertwined lives of two friends, Eun-jung (Kim Go-eun) and Sang-yeon (Park Ji-hyun), who, throughout their lives, experience deep affection, admiration, jealousy, and even dislike for each other. The series is set to be released on Netflix on the 12th.
Kim Go-eun debuted in 2012 with the film 'A Muse,' quickly becoming a rising star in the Korean film industry and sweeping numerous rookie awards.
She has since showcased a wide acting spectrum across various genres, starring in dramas such as 'Cheese in the Trap,' 'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God,' and 'Yumi's Cells.'
Her recent work, 'Little Women,' garnered critical acclaim for her nuanced emotional performances.
