Ailee Recounts Terrifying Emergency Landing Amidst Typhoon: Husband Choi Si-hoon in Panic During Lost Contact
Singer Ailee has shared a harrowing experience of being on a flight that had to make an emergency landing due to a typhoon.
In a video uploaded on December 13th to the YouTube channel 'Illi's Wedding Diary' titled 'I Almost Lost My Wife...', Ailee detailed the frightening moments.
Ailee's husband, Choi Si-hoon, who was accompanying her on her South Africa schedule, inquired about the trip duration. Ailee responded, "It was supposed to be 2 nights and 5 days, but it turned into 2 nights and 6 days." Choi Si-hoon then recounted his extreme worry, saying, "I really thought I was going to lose my wife."
Ailee explained, "We were supposed to land in Hong Kong, but the typhoon was so severe that we couldn't land. We circled in the sky for about five times. Then, suddenly, they said we were running low on fuel. It's scary, right? So, they said we had to divert to another location. We had to make an emergency landing in Kaohsiung to refuel." She revealed a message she sent in a hurry, paying for Wi-Fi for an hour to inform her husband: "Honey, our plane is circling in the sky because of the typhoon in Hong Kong, and we're running out of fuel..."
During their attempted voice call, communication issues arose, leading to panic for Choi Si-hoon, who repeatedly called out "Honey?" and "What's happening?" When he asked if she had landed, Ailee replied, "No, we're still in the sky." She expressed her fear, stating, "We don't have enough fuel anymore. We're suddenly going somewhere else on the way to Taiwan. I don't know, the plane is shaking continuously. I'm scared." Choi Si-hoon pleaded, "Honey, please, please... I'm so worried, please."
Ailee then shared that after sending 'Honey, it's me' to her husband, they lost contact for 30 minutes due to a sudden Wi-Fi disconnection. Choi Si-hoon, unaware of the situation, continued sending anxious messages: "Honey, please be okay, please come back safely."
Choi Si-hoon described his terror, "I had a terrible dream that night. I dreamt you were supposed to arrive, but you kept not arriving. I woke up in the middle of the night, but there was no contact. Then, the first contact in the morning was a voice call. How shocking it must have been!"
Ailee added with a laugh, "He said he called my mother because he couldn't reach me." Choi Si-hoon elaborated, "We had location tracking enabled, and it showed her position in the middle of the sea, not moving. I couldn't help but have terrible thoughts." He continued, "I had set up 'Find My' for emergencies, which made it even worse. In the morning, I contacted my family in the US and my mother, crying and saying I couldn't live without my wife." His mother then called his aunt, saying, "If Si-hoon dies, I'll die too." The entire family was in distress. His aunt called, saying, "They're both making a huge fuss about dying."
"That's why he came to pick me up at the airport today," Ailee chuckled. "He said he had to follow my schedule because he developed separation anxiety."
Ailee married Choi Si-hoon, who appeared on Netflix's 'Single's Inferno 1', in August of last year.
