Actor Kim Min-kyo Tears Up Recalling Late Father, Reveals Past 'Marital Surveillance' Job

Actor Kim Min-kyo became emotional on broadcast as he recalled his late father, shedding tears as he shared his story.

On the April 15th episode of Channel A's 'Close Friends Documentary - 4-Person Table,' viewers saw the home of Lee Pil-mo and Seo Soo-yeon, visited by Park Kyung-lim, Lee Jong-hyuk, and Kim Min-kyo, who were college acquaintances.

During a conversation about part-time jobs from his less-known days, Kim Min-kyo surprised everyone by revealing he once worked as a 'marital surveillance operative.' He explained that he wasn't working for a detective agency but was hired by an acquaintance whose father was having an affair. He was offered 200,000 won daily to follow the target from morning to night and an additional 1 million won if the affair was confirmed. He recounted how he pursued the individual for five to six days, catching them entering a motel, and how the family was then called.

Kim Min-kyo shared that his family experienced a significant downfall after he was in his second and third years of high school, having lived well before that. His father was the director of a general hospital, and though they lived comfortably with a swimming pool at home, a major scam led to their ruin. He spoke of his mother washing dishes to support the family and himself working strenuous manual labor to earn tuition fees, even laying paving blocks and building structures.

His relationship with his father took a difficult turn when his father, disillusioned with the world after the financial scam, became a monk. Kim Min-kyo recalled his shock upon hearing this news during his first military leave. He admitted to resenting his father and not seeing him for about 15 years, finding it too painful.

However, when his father was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, Kim Min-kyo felt compelled to be by his side. He rented a house next to the temple where his father resided and visited daily. He invited his father to his performances, filling the audience with friends and acquaintances to show his father his success. He also shared how his father's encouragement led him to propose to his now-wife, and that his father cherished her deeply during the three years he lived after the diagnosis. Kim Min-kyo expressed his regret that his father couldn't see his later success on 'SNL Korea' for longer, tearing up as he spoke.

Kim Min-kyo is an actor who has also actively participated in various entertainment programs, showcasing his versatile talents. He recently launched a YouTube channel to connect with fans and share aspects of his daily life. He is also known for his consistent affection towards his pet dogs, often participating in related activities.
