Remembering Veteran Actor Noh Young-guk Two Years On: Unfinished Role in 'The Family' Leaves Lasting Regret

It has been two years since the beloved actor Noh Young-guk bid farewell to the world.

He tragically passed away on the morning of September 18, 2023, due to a sudden heart attack, at the age of 75.

At the time of his passing, Noh was actively participating in the KBS2 weekend drama ‘The Family’s Independence’. The news of his death, which came just two episodes after the drama's premiere, sent shockwaves of sorrow and regret throughout the industry and among fans.

Born in 1948, the late actor first stepped onto the theatrical stage in 1967, making his official debut as an MBC contract actor in 1975. He went on to leave a profound impact with his roles in significant productions such as ‘The Great King, Sejong’, ‘Eyes of Dawn’, ‘Emperor of the Sea’, ‘Musa’, and ‘I Love You Ten Million Times’.

Beyond his dramatic performances, Noh also showcased his versatility by hosting documentary programs and pursuing a career as a singer, actively engaging in various fields. His return to the small screen after a year-long hiatus for ‘The Family’s Independence’, where he portrayed Kang Jin-beom, the chairman of Taesan Group, was met with anticipation. However, his sudden departure left a deep sense of unfinished business and regret.

His colleagues and the production team at the time mourned his loss, vowing to "honor his memory by diligently filling his absence and completing the project until the very end."

Noh Young-guk’s resting place is the Seoul Crematorium. Even now, two years later, junior actors and viewers alike fondly remember his earnest acting and warm smile, continuing to pay tribute to his legacy.

Noh Young-guk began his acting journey on the theater stage in 1967 with the play 'The Threepenny Opera'. He was selected as a special contract actor by MBC in 1975 and dedicated over fifty years to his acting career. He displayed a wide range of acting skills across film and television, particularly leaving a strong impression on audiences with his powerful performances in historical dramas.
