Singer Jeong Dong-won Under Investigation for Underage, Unlicensed Driving

Singer Jeong Dong-won is reportedly under investigation by prosecutors for driving a vehicle without a license during his minor years. News outlets reported on the 11th that the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office is currently looking into allegations of violating the Road Traffic Act.

It is understood that Jeong Dong-won, who was 16 years old at the time, drove a truck without a license in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do in 2023. He was below the legal age to obtain a driver's license then.

This incident reportedly came to light during an extortion case where Jeong Dong-won was blackmailed. In March, individuals who obtained his mobile phone threatened to release personal information unless he paid 500 million KRW. After paying 100 million KRW, he recovered his phone, which contained footage of him driving the truck.

Based on this evidence, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul forwarded the case to the prosecution in June on charges of unlicensed driving. Jeong Dong-won's agency stated, "It was just once out of curiosity," and affirmed his cooperation with the investigation.

This is not the first time Jeong Dong-won has faced legal issues related to unlicensed driving. In March 2023, he received a suspended indictment for riding a motorcycle on a road where it was prohibited.

Jeong Dong-won first gained national recognition at the age of 12 after appearing on the TV Chosun audition program 'Mister Trot,' where he secured a spot in the Top 5.

He is known for his mature vocal abilities and emotional performances, earning him a significant fanbase at a young age.

Beyond music, Jeong Dong-won has also been expanding his career into acting, showcasing his versatility.
