Eugene and Im Hyo-sung's Awkward Outing to a Japanese Maid Cafe Goes Viral
Former S.E.S. member Eugene and her husband Im Hyo-sung shared a humorous and slightly awkward experience during their recent trip to Japan, visiting a maid cafe. Eugene uploaded a video on her YouTube channel titled 'What Happens When Couple Eugene & Hyo-sung Visit a Japanese Maid Cafe (Infinite Moe Moe Kyun)'.
The couple ventured into a themed maid cafe near Akihabara, a hub for Japanese otaku culture. While Eugene found the anime-character-inspired outfits of the staff charming, Im Hyo-sung appeared visibly uncomfortable and expressed his disinterest, comparing the costumes to 'Sailor Moon' and stating he doesn't enjoy such settings.
Despite Eugene's attempts to explain that cosplay is a popular and accepted part of Japanese culture, Im Hyo-sung remained resistant. He declined photo opportunities with the maids and even asked Eugene to move further away from him, citing discomfort. He openly voiced his unease, describing the atmosphere and patrons as 'creepy' and 'perverted'.
Eugene tried to bridge the cultural gap by explaining that this fascination with characters is common, much like her own childhood love for Sailor Moon, and is a significant part of the country's subculture. This visit comes after the couple recently revealed they have been living separately for the past three to four years, drawing considerable public attention.
Eugene, a former member of the iconic K-pop group S.E.S., debuted in 1997 and was beloved for her fairy-like image and talent. She quickly became a top star in the Korean entertainment industry. After S.E.S. disbanded, she successfully transitioned into acting, appearing in numerous dramas and films, and has also explored musical theater.
