As the first anniversary of the passing of former MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna approaches, her elder brother, Oh Sang-min, has appealed for attention towards a memorial event.

On the 13th, Oh Sang-min posted on his social media account, stating, "September 15th is Yoanna's first anniversary." He revealed, "Yoanna suffered greatly from workplace bullying and left us."

He continued, "Currently, our mother is on a hunger strike in front of MBC, demanding a resolution to the issue." He urged, "On Yoanna's first anniversary, please join us to ensure her death was not in vain, that the truth is revealed, and that contract workers in the broadcasting and media industry no longer suffer."

The late Oh Yoanna joined MBC as a publicly recruited weathercaster in 2021 but passed away last September. Her suicide note, revealed shortly after her death, contained details of her suffering from workplace bullying, sending shockwaves through society.

MBC formed a fact-finding committee and launched an investigation, terminating the contract with freelance weathercaster A, who was identified as the perpetrator. However, the station's decision to renew contracts with other weathercasters mentioned in connection with the case sparked controversy.

Subsequently, a special labor inspection by the Ministry of Employment and Labor concluded that "acts of bullying against the deceased occurred." However, it was revealed that due to her freelance status, the 'workplace bullying' regulations under the Labor Standards Act could not be applied, highlighting a legal limitation.

Meanwhile, the mother of the late Oh Yoanna has reportedly been continuing her hunger strike since the 8th in front of the MBC building in Sangam-dong, Seoul.

Oh Yoanna was selected as an MBC public recruitment weathercaster in 2021 and worked for the broadcasting station. Before her untimely death, she left a will detailing her suffering from workplace bullying, which caused significant social repercussions. Following her death, her mother continues her hunger strike to seek the truth and prevent future incidents.
