Lee Sun-bin Debunks 'Slow Speech' Stereotype: 'Chungcheongdo People Speak Fastest When Angry!'

Actress Lee Sun-bin has addressed the common misconception that people from the Chungcheong Province speak slowly.

Appearing on the YouTube channel 'Zzanhan Hyung Shin Dong-yeop' with co-stars Ra Mi-ran and Jo Aram from the drama 'Let's Go to the Beach,' Lee Sun-bin engaged in a candid conversation with hosts Shin Dong-yeop and Jung Ho-cheol. When Jung Ho-cheol commented on her surprisingly fast-paced speech, Lee explained her hometown, Cheonan in Chungnam, is often misunderstood.

"Many people misunderstand that people from Chungcheong Province speak slowly," Lee stated. "However, when we get angry, people from Chungnam actually speak the fastest!" she revealed, eliciting laughter.

She further demonstrated this unique linguistic rhythm, saying, "There's a rhythm to it," and playfully recited a phrase with a distinct, melodic intonation. Lee elaborated, "We tend to speak slowly and then suddenly speed up, there's a certain cadence."

Analyzing the perceived slowness of the dialect, Lee suggested it might stem from an inherent nonchalance and a relaxed demeanor, which she playfully demonstrated.

Previously, Lee garnered significant attention for her adept portrayal of a character using a natural Chungcheong dialect in the 2023 Coupang Play series 'Gyeongseong Creature' alongside Im Si-wan. Her upcoming MBC drama 'Let's Go to the Beach' centers on the survival stories of three women who dive into cryptocurrency investments to make ends meet in a challenging economic climate.

Lee Sun-bin made her acting debut in the 2016 drama 'Entourage'. She has since showcased impressive performances in various genres, including 'Criminal Minds' and '365: Repeat the Year'. Her witty remarks and engaging personality have also made her a popular figure on numerous variety shows.
