Veteran Comedian Lee Sang-hae Attempts to Make Granddaughter Ella Laugh on 'The Return of Superman'
Veteran comedian Lee Sang-hae, aged 80, is set to take on a heartwarming challenge to make his granddaughter Ella laugh on KBS2's 'The Return of Superman' (hereinafter 'Superman').
'Superman,' which first aired in 2013, has been a beloved family show for 13 years. Recently, contestant Jung-woo ranked within the top 10 for two consecutive weeks in the TV-OTT non-drama cast popularity category, proving the youngest sibling's strong influence. The show also reaffirmed its status as a national parenting program by receiving the Presidential Commendation at the 14th Population Day commemoration.
This week's episode, airing today (17th), titled 'Holding onto the End of Summer,' features hosts Park Soo-hong, Choi Ji-woo, Ahn Young-mi, and Kim Yoon-ji, alongside Lee Sang-hae and his wife Kim Young-im, who will be looking after their granddaughter Ella for a day. Notably, Lee Sang-hae, a master of slapstick comedy, will employ all his signature comedic skills honed throughout his career to elicit laughter from Ella.
First, Lee Sang-hae captures Ella's attention with a propeller hat, then attempts to make her laugh with the song and dance of 'Ong-heya.' When Ella remains unresponsive, he declares his intention to win her over with his own brand of hip-hop dance, donning a beanie. His daughter-in-law, Kim Yoon-ji, cheers on his efforts to adapt his parenting style to modern trends, adding to the amusement.
Lee Sang-hae continues his comedic performance by pretending to fall after getting onto Ella's toy car and tumbling down a toddler's toy staircase. His relentless physical comedy, even at the age of 80, surprises his junior comedian Ahn Young-mi, who remarks, "He's not usually like this..." His wife, Kim Young-im, though claiming to question his antics, couldn't hold back her laughter, erupting into fits of giggles.
All eyes are on 'Superman' to see if Grandpa Lee Sang-hae can successfully tickle Ella's funny bone with his classic slapstick comedy skills, reminiscent of his prime. The show airs every Wednesday at 8:30 PM.
