CORTIS Unveils "JoyRide" MV with Unique Reverse Chronology Concept
Rookie boy group CORTIS is capturing attention with their unique concept in the newly released music video for "JoyRide," a B-side track from their debut album.
The music video, dropped on the HYBE LABELS YouTube channel at midnight on the 21st, showcases CORTIS members Martin, James, Joohun, Sunghyun, and Geonho.
Inspired by self-produced videos conceptualized, filmed, and edited by the members during their trainee days, the MV presents a narrative that unfolds in reverse.
Every scene plays backward, disrupting the conventional flow of time and leaving viewers guessing the ultimate outcome. Instructions appearing with each scene transition serve as the sole clues to piecing together the chronological order of events.
The video features cinematic sequences, including scenes of members running from falling meteorites or driving towards an unknown destination, all set against the stunning landscapes of New Zealand.
Combined with the reverse playback technique, the evocative yet refreshing melody of "JoyRide" creates a captivating and nostalgic atmosphere.
"JoyRide" is an alternative rock track infused with pop elements, reflecting the group's identity as a "Young Creator Crew" with all members participating in lyric and music composition. The lyrics resonate with listeners by capturing the fleeting desire for liberation on a summer day, with lines like "A good student is my past tense" depicting the cyclical nature of ordinary life.
CORTIS is also set to perform their intro track "GO!" on the upcoming SBS "Inkigayo" broadcast on the 21st, with Joohun and Geonho joining as special MCs to add to the entertainment.
CORTIS, consisting of Martin, James, Joohun, Sunghyun, and Geonho, is a five-member boy group under HYBE. They are noted for their strong self-producing capabilities, having been involved in the planning, filming, and editing of their debut album's music videos. This hands-on approach highlights their artistic vision and commitment to creating content that authentically represents their musical identity.
