Jang Yoon-ju Reveals Past Model Industry "Harsh Discipline Culture" and Her Role in Its Abolition
Supermodel Jang Yoon-ju has opened up about the harsh disciplinary culture that once existed in the modeling industry, revealing her direct experience and her role in its eventual demise.
Appearing on the YouTube channel ‘Sallongdrip2’ on the 16th, Jang shared her stories alongside co-stars Jeon Yeo-been and Joo Hyun-young from the drama ‘A Good Woman Boo Sae-mi’.
During the talk, Jang recounted her childhood, describing her family environment as one where "slapping was the norm." She recalled an incident where she was slapped by her older sister for wearing clothes her sister had prepared, leading to tears and a premature end to the conflict.
Shifting to her professional life, Jang discussed the senior-junior dynamics within the modeling world. "There used to be a culture in the modeling industry where seniors would gather juniors for discipline," she explained, noting her own reluctance to participate. She vividly remembered a situation with Han Hye-jin where they were expected to discipline junior models. "Neither of us could go through with it, so we ended up bursting into laughter and it fizzled out," Jang stated, suggesting this incident was a turning point that contributed to the disappearance of such disciplinary practices.
She further elaborated, "I'd rather be scolded myself than discipline a junior." Jang mentioned her preference for indirect communication, like speaking euphemistically or sending gentle text messages, rather than confrontational remarks.
