Broadcaster Lee Soo-ji has lent her voice to raise awareness about 'plant sovereignty' in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Korea's Liberation Day. Known for bringing laughter on variety shows, she is now showcasing another facet of her talent with a moving narration that carries a significant message.

Recently, Lee Soo-ji collaborated with Professor Seo Kyeong-deok of Sungshin Women's University to release a multilingual video highlighting the importance of 'plant sovereignty.' This video, co-produced with the Korea National Arboretum of the Korea Forest Service, was created in Korean and English and has garnered attention after being shared on YouTube, various social media platforms, and global Korean and international student communities.

The video recounts the poignant history of endemic plants of the Korean Peninsula whose names were even stripped away by Japanese scholars during the colonial era. It goes on to emphasize that our plants are not merely natural resources but represent the nation's memory and future competitiveness, as evidenced through post-liberation plant specimen documentation and preservation processes.

Lee Soo-ji, who undertook the Korean narration, expressed her delight, stating, "I am happy to introduce the history of our plants in commemoration of the 80th Liberation Day, and I hope many netizens, both domestically and internationally, will watch this video."

Professor Seo Kyeong-deok, who planned this project, added, "I wanted to widely publicize the importance of 'plant sovereignty' through the history of plants that we have reclaimed after erasing the traces of Japanese rule." He further stated, "We will continue to produce diverse content to promote this globally."

Having previously brought laughter through entertainment programs and radio, Lee Soo-ji is now delivering profound emotion to viewers with a message connecting history and the environment. In this meaningful 80th year of Liberation, her new endeavor resonates with particular significance.
