Renowned ballad singer Shin Seung-hun has confidently declared that a resurgence of ballads is imminent. At a press conference held on the afternoon of the 22nd at Novotel Ambassador Seoul Gangnam in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the release of his 12th full-length album, 'SINCERELY MELODIES,' he shared his candid thoughts on the current K-pop-centric music market.

Shin Seung-hun remarked, "Music nowadays passes by too quickly, becoming like background BGM. Unlike the past, where people paid for music, it's different now." He added, "However, there are definitely things that break through the times. I'm also participating in the SBS entertainment show ‘Uri-deul-ui Ballad,’ but just as 'Invisible Love' evokes thoughts of winter, ballads will remain a truth and a steady seller."

Acknowledging the growth of the idol market, he stated, "They are doing so well that it cannot be called a bubble." He continued, "It's not that ballads need to break through K-pop, but rather they need to maintain their position. Then, other things will naturally decline, and ballads will start to be seen again." He emphasized, "I believe that time will come soon. I too have stepped forward for that era."

When asked about junior ballad singers, he noted, "There aren't many singers doing traditional ballads these days. After me, there were Jo Sung-mo, Sung Si-kyung, and Jung Seung-hwan, but after that, many shifted towards soul R&B." He defined ballads as, "While Crush and Zion.T are excellent, I consider music with lyricism and memories to be ballads. If it provides comfort and strength to someone, that is a ballad." He expressed affection for Zion.T and Crush, saying, "It's good to see juniors challenging themselves in creation."

Regarding the globalization of K-pop, he recalled, "It's gratifying that K-pop's status has improved. When I first went to Japan, dramas were famous, but there was a time when my album was placed in the 'World Pop' section without the word K-pop." He also added, "The music market has become specialized and idol-focused, leading to a tendency for genre imbalance. It's regrettable to see musicians lacking confidence when they should be competing in their respective genres." He concluded, "Good music will continue to survive, and I hope K-pop expands into various genres."

Shin Seung-hun's 12th full-length album, 'SINCERELY MELODIES,' is set to be released on the 23rd at 6 PM.

Shin Seung-hun debuted in 1990 with 'The One Who Shines in Your Smile,' earning him the nickname 'Emperor of Ballads.' He pioneered the Korean ballad scene, creating numerous hit songs with his unique voice and emotional lyrics. His music transcends time, resonating deeply with listeners across generations.
