Kim Young-kwang, Ex-Goalkeeper, Reveals Wife is a Dermatologist in Cheongdam-dong After Mentioning ₩2.2 Billion Transfer Fee
Former national football team goalkeeper Kim Young-kwang made a guest appearance on SBS's variety show 'Same Bed, Different Dreams Season 2 – You Are My Destiny,' capturing the audience's attention.
During the broadcast, he discussed his past achievement of a record-breaking ₩2.2 billion (approximately $1.7 million USD) transfer fee, highlighting his legacy as a legendary player. However, when compared to fellow goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae, he humorously expressed his frustration at being labeled the 'eternal runner-up.'
What particularly drew viewers' interest was the reveal of his wife. Kim Young-kwang's wife, Kim Eun-ji, was introduced as a doctor who runs a renowned dermatology clinic in the affluent Cheongdam-dong district of Gangnam-gu, surprising many.
The show also offered a glimpse into the daily lives of the couple, who have been together for 19 years. In a surprising twist, while his wife enjoyed a cozy living space, Kim Young-kwang was shown sleeping in a compact 2-pyeong (approx. 6.6 sq m) room primarily used as a walk-in closet.
He explained that he chose to sleep in the small room to avoid disturbing his wife when she returns home late, a sentiment that fellow host Seo Jang-hoon empathized with, acknowledging the demanding profession of a doctor.
Kim Young-kwang was selected as a member of the South Korean national team for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, bringing him initial widespread recognition. He also holds a gold medal from the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
During his active career, he was praised for his exceptional skills, earning him the nickname 'Little Schmeichel,' and he solidified his status as one of the top goalkeepers in the K League.
Even after retiring from professional play, he continues to engage with the public through consistent television appearances, maintaining his popularity among fans.
