Actor Yoo Ji-tae is set to champion director Kim Dae-hwan's latest film, 'A Man of Reason,' which he first recognized five years ago.
Yoo Ji-tae will host the 27th installment of his 'Movie Watching with Yoo Ji-tae' event on the 10th at Indie Space, located on the 8th floor of Lotte Cinema, Hongdae Entrance, Mapo-gu, Seoul. This special event will feature a screening of 'A Man of Reason,' a film by director Kim Dae-hwan, with whom Yoo Ji-tae shares a significant connection.
Director Kim Dae-hwan has emerged as a rising talent in Korean cinema, earning accolades for his previous work 'After My Death,' including the Best Director award in the Current Cinema section at the 70th Locarno International Film Festival, the Best New Director award at the 4th Blue Dragon Film Awards, and the Best Screenplay award at the 32nd Mar del Plata International Film Festival.
Upon encountering Kim Dae-hwan's debut film 'After My Death' during its release in 2017, Yoo Ji-tae recognized the director's potential and personally sponsored audience invitations to support the film. Now, upon hearing about Kim Dae-hwan's new project, 'A Man of Reason,' Yoo Ji-tae is once again stepping up to offer his encouragement and support.
'A Man of Reason,' Kim Dae-hwan's first feature in five years, has garnered significant attention, notably at the 26th Jeonju International Film Festival. The film recently garnered further buzz when director Bong Joon-ho attended a preview screening's Q&A session and offered high praise.
The movie tells the story of a son (played by Ryu Kyung-soo) studying in Canada who unexpectedly visits his mother (played by Jang Young-nam), a high school teacher in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, along with his girlfriend's (Stephanie Lee) family. Amidst unfamiliar and awkward encounters, the film delves into the hidden family secrets and the subtle emotional dynamics of an ordinary yet extraordinary family.
Applications to participate in this event are being accepted until the 9th via Yoo Ji-tae's official YouTube channel.
Yoo Ji-tae has a long-standing relationship with director Kim Dae-hwan, first supporting his debut film 'After My Death' by personally inviting audiences.
