Singer and producer Park Jin-young, widely known as J.Y. Park, has been appointed as a member of the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange, taking on a significant role in advancing K-pop globally.

In a statement released on the 9th, Park expressed initial apprehension about undertaking a government role but stated his determination to capitalize on the current "special opportunity" for K-pop and propel it to the next level. He recalled his early days in 2003, personally distributing promotional materials in the US, and the Wonder Girls' groundbreaking Billboard Hot 100 entry in 2009, underscoring his consistent dream of K-pop achieving worldwide recognition.

This appointment has gained renewed attention following singer Sunmi's recent interview, where she reminisced about the Wonder Girls' US promotions. Sunmi recalled J.Y. Park actively handing out promotional pamphlets himself during their time in the US, highlighting his pioneering spirit and dedication. Fans and netizens have voiced strong support for Park's new endeavor, believing his extensive experience and commitment will be instrumental in the institutional growth of K-pop.

Park Jin-young is the founder and chief producer of JYP Entertainment, a prominent South Korean entertainment company. He debuted as a solo artist in 1994 and has since become a highly successful producer, responsible for launching numerous hit songs and artists. His career spans nearly three decades, and he has been a pioneer in the international expansion of K-pop.
