Im Hyeong-jun Credits Ma Dong-seok for Saving His Acting Career: Reveals 'The Roundup' Casting Story
Actor Im Hyeong-jun has shared a surprising story about how actor Ma Dong-seok helped him continue his acting career.
Appearing on the MBC show 'Radio Star' on the 10th, Im Hyeong-jun recounted his special connection with Ma Dong-seok during an episode themed 'Rich Dad in Heart, Poor Dad in Body.' He revealed that during a period when he had few acting opportunities and was considering retirement, he asked Ma Dong-seok for a chance to audition for 'The Roundup.'
Im Hyeong-jun, who has known Ma Dong-seok since their days as aspiring actors, mentioned hearing about Ma Dong-seok's plans to produce and direct 'The Roundup' and expressed his desire to audition. When he didn't hear back, he took the opportunity to ask Ma Dong-seok directly when they met by chance. Ma Dong-seok then immediately called the director and arranged a meeting for Im Hyeong-jun.
Im Hyeong-jun recalled feeling overwhelmed by the sudden, unprepared meeting but decided to go with a 'last chance' mindset. Although initially offered a detective role, a suggestion from an assistant director led him to audition for the role of a gangster, which ultimately evolved into the popular character 'Jang Isu' in 'The Roundup' series.
He humorously noted that he never expected 'The Roundup' to become a series and joked that he would have continued appearing if he had played a detective. He also shared a lighthearted anecdote about recently asking Ma Dong-seok about a potential role in 'The Roundup 5,' only to be turned down.
Im Hyeong-jun debuted in 1999 with the film 'Whispering Corridors 2: Anatomy Lesson.'
He gained recognition for his unique comedic acting, often stealing scenes in various productions.
