Singer Jeong Dong-won Admits to Unlicensed Driving, Apologizes; Agency Vows Strict Guidance
Singer Jeong Dong-won has acknowledged and apologized for driving without a license.
His agency, Showplay Entertainment, issued a statement on the 11th, bowing their heads in apology for the recent unpleasant incident involving their artist.
According to the agency, an acquaintance, identified as 'A', illicitly accessed Jeong's personal phone last year, obtaining footage of him practicing driving without a license for about 10 minutes. This acquaintance then attempted to extort over 200 million KRW by threatening to release the video.
Jeong Dong-won refused to comply and immediately reported the blackmailers to the police. The perpetrators have since been arrested and are currently on trial. The agency stated that Jeong deeply regrets and is remorseful for his actions of practicing driving without a license.
Showplay Entertainment pledged to do their best in managing and educating their artists to ensure they grow into more mature and responsible members of society, promising to prevent future incidents. Previously, Jeong Dong-won had also received a suspended indictment for riding a motorcycle without a license.
Born in 2007, Jeong Dong-won first gained significant attention in 2018 through the TV Chosun program 'Tomorrow is Mr. Trot'.
Despite his young age, he has garnered immense popularity for his exceptional vocal talent and stage presence.
