One year has passed since the unfortunate passing of late MBC announcer Oh Yo-anna. However, disputes surrounding the cause of her death continue to persist. Her mother is currently staging a hunger strike, while her older brother is organizing a memorial ceremony to pray for her peaceful repose.

Announcer Oh Yo-anna tragically passed away on September 14, 2024. The news of her death only came to light three months later, sending shockwaves through the community. A suicide note, spanning 17 pages of manuscript paper and discovered on her mobile phone, revealed allegations of workplace bullying by colleagues.

In response, the bereaved family filed a civil lawsuit against one individual identified as the perpetrator at the Seoul Central District Court. MBC formed a fact-finding committee. The Ministry of Employment and Labor, following a special labor inspection of MBC conducted by its Seoul branches in May, stated that while "workplace bullying occurred within the organization," the "regulations on workplace bullying do not apply as the deceased was not recognized as an employee under the Labor Standards Act."

While the Ministry of Employment and Labor did not specify whether the perpetrator was one person or multiple, they identified the individual as 'A'. MBC subsequently terminated its contract with 'A' but renewed contracts with other announcers, including Kim Ga-young, Lee Hyun-seung, and Choi Ah-ri.

In light of these developments, Mrs. Jang Yeon-mi, the mother of the late Oh Yo-anna, began a hunger strike in front of the MBC building in Sangam-dong, Seoul, on the 8th. The family stated, "We attempted to meet with MBC to convey our demands and seek resolution, but there was no willingness to address the issue," explaining their decision to cease eating as the first anniversary approaches. The mother expressed her grief, saying, "Every day is painful after losing my daughter. In a world without her, I am already dead."

Her older brother, Oh Sang-min, announced the first-anniversary memorial ceremony. He said, "Yo-anna suffered greatly due to workplace bullying before passing away. My mother is continuing her hunger strike in front of MBC, urging for a resolution. Through this memorial, I hope the truth will be revealed and that non-regular workers in broadcasting media will no longer suffer. We ask for your interest and participation."

The late announcer Oh Yo-anna tragically passed away on September 14, 2024. The news of her death, which occurred three months prior, was only disclosed later, causing significant shock. A note found on her phone detailed allegations of workplace harassment.
