Singer Yoo Seung-jun (American name Steve Seungjun Yoo), who has been barred from entering South Korea due to evading mandatory military service, has spoken out on his YouTube channel, expressing his desire to correct distorted truths and clear misunderstandings. However, his plea has been met with strong public criticism.

Yoo Seung-jun debuted in 1997 and was a prominent artist, but he acquired U.S. citizenship to avoid military service, leading to his entry ban since 2002.

In a recent video, he stated, "There are times when my heart breaks due to twisted truths and distorted sincerity," but also conveyed, "The reason I can gather strength is because of the people I love." He appealed for the removal of all misunderstandings surrounding him.

Following the video's release, Yoo Seung-jun has faced a barrage of criticism. A former head of the Military Manpower Administration had previously pointed out that Yoo was misleading the public to create a favorable narrative.

Composer Yoon Il-sang, who worked with Yoo in the past, also strongly criticized him, stating, "If you can't keep promises made to the public, you must offer a sincere apology." The controversy surrounding Yoo Seung-jun has reignited as he appears to be making moves towards a potential comeback.

Yoo Seung-jun's career began in 1997 with his debut album 'West Side,' and he quickly became a sensation with numerous hit songs. His dynamic performances and innovative music significantly impacted the K-pop scene in the late 90s. He was once considered one of the most popular dancers and singers of his generation. His abrupt decision to obtain U.S. citizenship, despite prior commitments to serve in the military, deeply disappointed his fans.
