Kim Go-eun Explains Tears at 'Twinkling Watermelon' Production Presentation

Actress Kim Go-eun has revealed the reason behind her emotional tears at the production presentation for the Netflix original drama 'Twinkling Watermelon'.

During an interview conducted on the 22nd, Kim Go-eun spoke about the moment at the press conference where she became overwhelmed with emotion while discussing Sang-yeon's request for Eun-jung's companionship to aid in 'assisted dying'.

She shared, "I lost some of my closest friends in a short period in 2023," adding, "Coincidentally, the projects I filmed that year were 'Love in the Big City' and 'Twinkling Watermelon'." As both works delve into themes of friendship in one's twenties, it appears her personal experiences resonated deeply, leading to a strong emotional response.

Kim Go-eun defined 'Twinkling Watermelon' as a story where "the remaining Eun-jung tells Sang-yeon's story," noting it was a narrative that "well conveyed the child's life, my life, from that child's perspective after reading Sang-yeon's diary." She particularly confessed that Eun-jung's heart as she followed Sang-yeon to Switzerland in the final scene was to "want to send her off well."

She further elaborated, "It's not often that we have the opportunity to properly send off someone we dearly love," and added, "There are times when even witnessing a deathbed is difficult. But for Eun-jung to be able to share stories and say 'you worked hard, you endured well' at the very last moment, I believe it was a good opportunity for her." While acknowledging it would be difficult for Eun-jung, she conveyed the touching sentiment, thinking it might have eased her burden.
