Actor Kim Min-kyo has once again created a new signature work with the Coupang Play series 'Office Workers.'

Having previously gained widespread recognition through 'SNL Korea,' he has now donned a new identity with the 'Office Workers' series, showcasing the depth of his improvisational acting honed on the theater stage and his strong chemistry with director Kim.

In a recent interview, Kim expressed his affection for the project, stating, "I used to think 'SNL' was my only representative work, but now 'Office Workers' seems to be rising to that position as well."

The reunion with director Kim, with whom he has consistently achieved successful outcomes, held special significance for Kim Min-kyo. "Whenever we attempt something new, the results are always good when I work with Director Kim. I had confidence this time too," he remarked.

In the series, Kim plays the role of a veteran manager at DY Planning, a character who considers the company more his own than even the CEO, Shin Dong-yeop. In Season 2, he portrayed the character's complex nuances through conflicts with his successor, manager Baek Hyun-jin.

"In Season 1, I played a supporting role, but in Season 2, I had an objective to fight against, which I was grateful for," he said, adding, "The opportunities to express tension, resentment, and competitiveness expanded."

A key feature of 'Office Workers' is that 80-90% of the content is improvised. With only the basic theme and situation provided, the actors' spontaneous chemistry drives the narrative.

Kim likened it to "jazz," explaining, "As long as the rhythm is right, each person improvises and completes the music. I had the trust that Director Kim would resolve any discord, so we continued any situation on set without cutting."

A notable moment this season was the guest appearance of soccer player Son Heung-min. Kim shared, "I was curious how Son Heung-min would react in an improv situation, but he blended in so naturally and comfortably. It was a much more fun experience than I expected."

Comparing himself to a "central midfielder" as an actor, he highlighted the importance of his role in coordinating the flow and setting the tempo so that all actors can perform harmoniously, rather than leading the attack alone.

"Improv theater also needs flow. If someone veers off course, someone needs to guide them, and a central role is necessary to keep everyone on track. I believe that's my job," he emphasized.

Finally, Kim Min-kyo expressed his hope that 'Office Workers' will continue for a long time, and conveyed his gratitude for the series becoming another signature work alongside 'SNL.'

Kim Min-kyo has actively participated in various projects, leveraging his improvisational acting skills honed on the theater stage. His unique comedic performances during his time on 'SNL Korea' garnered him immense popularity. Beyond acting, he has also increased his public recognition by showcasing witty conversation skills on variety shows.
